In the brief time we met, we had many lovely conversations: We talked about The Hellboys of course and the Hellboy Aphorisms. And about Tom's Tales to His Grandchildren which were and continue to be very important to me. Also about Level T and our mutual love of doing house work — especially doing the dishes.
But we connected in a different level as well. One of my unforgettable experiences in Glen Cove was to sit next to Tom in a rather chaotic circle and pass on silence together, and to see this silence catching onto the circle for a little while – a concrete representation of a quality working in a larger group.
I first had the conversation with Tom about the spontaneous dance that happened in the Performance Night – and it was Tom who encouraged me to get up to the mic and share this experience for a wider discussion.
Tom also sent me on a mission with two boxes of Hellboys records: 'Cha Cha with the Hellboys' and 'A Young Person's Guide To Hell'. The Mission was to share them to people for free. Now, the instruction was that if someone wants to pay something they can pay me. ... And let's put it this way: I did earn some money that day. He also gave me these two records – immediately playing in my CD player when I got home from New York.
One night, when almost everyone had left the Embassy Ballroom, a few of us sat there in Silence. Tom invited us silently to a small circle. In that circulation I felt with complete clarity that this is what my life is about.
"Save the night."
I am so grateful we met; so much happened in such a short time.
And I was so looking forward to meeting you again...
My heart and wishes go out to the family and loved ones.
Goodbye Tom
