Music videos /
Art films

The brand-new “ÅNGEST ÄR MIN ARVDEL” artfilm / music video for BRYSKT out now on YouTube!

“One of my biggest ambitions is films. I grew up with them and making films is one of the major aims for me as an artist. I’ve always been interested in all the aspects of filmmaking from directing to shooting and from production design to editing. And from these, editing, has been one of the most surprisingly joyous work of all. Here you can find a selection of my audioviusal work. Through all these I’m gradually moving towards my main goal: to make feature length art films.”

Desert Sands

“Desert Sands” is a music video / artfilm filmed and directed by Lauri Peltonen for the astounding dark ambient artist [ówt krì]. It was selected to be a part of the Filmifonia 2023 music video festival.

“The music piece is called Desert Sands and it instantly resonated with me in a profoundly deep way when I heard it. My aim was to create visuality that would answer to this resonance, and I have to say I'm very proud of this work of art. Almost everything you see is a composition of two separate in-camera shots. And it's all practical effects in those separate shots.”

“ I dedicate this to the memory of Douglas Trumbull; without his work and the knowledge he has shared, I doubt this work of would exist.”

Superb

“Superb” is a music video edited by Lauri Peltonen and directed by Joose Kyyrö and Lauri Peltonen for the band The Funky Sound Foundation. The footage in this video consists largely of old footage of the graffiti scene in Helsinki in the mid 90’s and a few old TV commercials. Most of the band footage was also shot by Lauri using the VHS format to go together with the old material.

This video also contains hidden meanings and stories to be found by the keen observer.

Above clouds

“Above clouds” is a short art film / music video edited by Lauri Peltonen and directed by Oneiros Resort. The director of photography is Sonja Peuhkurinen.

The music here is a collaboration between the singer Nala Karlsson and Lauri with ambient guitar.

“What is the meaning of the short film Above clouds? It seems that life is going in two different directions. So a beginning is also an end and vice versa. Also the observed is actually looking back at you. And then at some point the end and the beginning meet and change directions. What does that mean?”

Hazardous Aleatoricism

“Hazardous Aleatoricism” is a experimental short created by Lauri Peltonen. The original idea behind it was to study the relationship between and the combined effect of certain kinds of sounds and visuals. There is a kind of familiarity and nostalgia in the analog feel in it and maybe that makes it pleasurable to watch even though we might not know exactly what we are looking at.

The Smell of Acrylic Paint

A short music video with footage from Reykjavík, Berlin and Helsinki.

This is c-cassette tapeloop music meaning that the music was done with modified cassettes with a looping magnetic tape in them.

A trip down with memory plane

Here is that sweet VHS analog quality! Some of that glitchiness was created with a broken VHS cassette system; some by tampering with the camera.

Music and video both made by Lauri.

My first MiniDV glitch video

One of Lauri’s big passions are glitch, lofi, analog and so on. Here’s some of that digital glitch created with Lauri’s old DV camera and a lot of patience. All real and in-camera.

Shell Shock

WARNING: This is not the easiest thing to watch.

“I experimented with editing old footage from the era of World War I. The quest was to find a story to tell with pictures and the story here is about shell shock, a type of post traumatic stress disorder, and about recovery. I found some quite symbolic footage like the hand that gets stuck in a ‘pistol position’ when that person heard “fire!”. The footage here can be disturbing and there is a lot that I left out. My point is not to shock but to tell a story without words with strong material.“

It’s Snowing Again

“It’s Snowing Again” is a beautiful ambient music video edited and played by Lauri. The film material is from over 100 years old surrealist/expressionist films and various random archive footage.

“It started to snow when I played this music with a guitar and a few effects. The point of using this video material was to find short unrelated clips with a feeling to them and then to make the music give a meaning to the whole... to bring them to life in todays world.”
